Not only is Faro the arrival point for anyone flying into the Algarve, but it's the capital of the region and home to one of the most beautiful nature reserves, with its island beaches and amazing species of wildlife. In the city itself, the 'Cidade Velha', the oldest part of Faro has many historical attractions and places of interest, such as the Arco da Vila, the Manuel Bivar gardens, the Cathedral and the 17th century Episcopal Palace. There are lots of guided sightseeing tours, a tourist train that gives a great overall view of the city or there are great maps available from the tourist office to go it alone!
